Bhim Yatra enters Maharashtra
Belgaum district.
We were travelling to Belgaum district. On the way, near Rani Chellammal University, a professor from the university stopped the bus and requested for the yatra to hold a meeting in the University Faculty and students. He led us to the university. A large number of faculty and students gathered quickly. After hearing about the Yatra, the continuing deaths and manual scavenging, Mr. Chandrakant a professor said that it is a shame that in this country even in the 21st century we are not using technology and machines for this work. Another faculty - Mr. Amaresh said,"the Bhim Yatra is very inspiring and we will all support this yatra". After this meeting we proceeded to Mithali town in the district. Here the local leader, Praveen led us to the meeting place near the statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Many Safaikarmacharis had gathered there for the meeting. After garlanding and holding a meeting there we boarded the bus and left Karnataka.
Bhim Yatra enters Maharashtra
Sangali District, Maharashtra
We entered Maharashtra into Sangali district at 6.30PM. We rallied for half hour with yatris and Safai Karamcharis and distributed pamphlets of yatra and then went straight to the Valmiki Mehtar Colony in Shivaji Mandi area. Here we gathered around the Ambedkar statue. Sahin a community leader welcomed us and Vishal Shukla, Maharashtra state convener introduced the yatris and spoke about the Yatra and its purpose. In this place the women did not come out of their houses. Community leaders Mahendra Chandaliya and Sandeep karaliya spoke and endorsed the yatra and committed their support and solidarity. The community had made arrangements for night stay at a marriage hall and gave us food and refreshments. After the dinner, we had a small meeting with the social welfare officer Named Radha Krishan Kamdae and he discussed our problems and understands our purpose of the bhim yatra. It is applicable to mention that social welfare officer came late night and held meeting with the safai karmacharis
A word of Appreciation:
Faculty of Rani Chellammal university in Belgaum university for holding the meeting in their campus and the Valmiki Mehtar community in Sivaji Mandi for providing accommodation and food for the yatris. The whole arrangement from food to stay was managed by Shaheen Sheikh, social activist from Sangali District
