They
pointed out that more than 40 days had passed since the impasse, but
instead of resolving the crisis, the government had turned a blind eye
to it. A majority of workers from the state as well as tribals of
Kinnaur had not been paid wages for the last three months, they added.
They said the bare minimum statutory provisions of working in tribal areas like providing a tunnel and tribal allowance, ESI benefits, minimum wages to workers, etc, were being denied and the sub contractors were being given a free hand to treat the workers as their slaves. “We condemned this,” they added.
