On this day, 71 years ago, Soviet troops liberated the killing factory known as Auschwitz-Birkenau. This year, as we honor the millions of victims of the Holocaust, it is so imperative that we remember the kind of mentality that led to one of humanity's worst atrocities. The Nazi party was only able to become what it was because its people were raised in an atmosphere of fear and intolerance. Fear itself has a way of snowballing into something far worse, something ugly within human nature. Never forget that.
