Synopsis
147 workers at the Manesar plant of India’s biggest automobile manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki stand trial for the murder of a senior manager, and 2500 workers have been dismissed. It has been two and a half years and the workers have been denied bail as the case drags on. Haryana government has hired a top Supreme Court lawyer to prosecute the workers at a daily fee of over Rs.11lakhs. The workers had clashed with the management over their legitimate demand to form a union which was being actively opposed by the management, and workers maintain that the death of the manager was used as an excuse to frame them and malign the union. This documentary follows the fate of those under trial, the dismissed workers and their families, and the exasperated lawyer that is working in their defense. Through this, the film traces a short history of Maruti’s operations in India.
