Sedition case filed against Rahul Gandhi in Allahabad
A case of sedition was registered against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in an Allahabad district court on Wednesday for his remarks on student protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University where anti-national slogans were allegedly shouted.
The complaint was filed in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate, Allahabad, Sushil Kumar under Sections 124, 124A, 500 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code claiming that Gandhi took an anti-national stand by voicing support for the JNU students accused of sedition. The case will come up for hearing on March 1.
Condemning the attack on journalists outside the Patiala House courts in Delhi on Monday, the Congress vice-president had alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was trying to crush people’s opinion. Gandhi said the Congress would fight that. He had visited JNU earlier and criticised the police action against students.
