PM Modi reshuffles cabinet, inducts 19 new faces, promotes Javadekar
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted 19 new ministers in his council of ministers on Tuesday morning.
Minister of state (independent charge) Prakash Javadekar was elevated to the cabinet rank.
Some of the new faces to be sworn in as ministers of state are M.J. Akbar, Vijay Goel, Faggan Kulaste, Ramdas Athalwale, S.S. Ahluwalia and Ramesh Jigajinagi.
This is the second expansion and reshuffle of the cabinet by Modi since the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in May 2014.
While the government is preparing to give the development agenda a major push, the expansion is also a result of the upcoming challenges for the BJP as it prepares to face the crucial electoral test in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa.

Modi had first expanded his cabinet in November 2014 when he had inducted 21 new faces in his council of ministers, including defence minister Manohar Parrikar, health minister J.P. Nadda and railway minister Suresh Prabhu. At present, there are 64 Union ministers, including Modi.
Before the assembly polls in Bihar and West Bengal, Modi had inducted senior leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Giriraj Singh and Babul Supriyo in his council of minister, but the party performed dismally in both the states.
