Bangla police commandos have stormed the restaurant in Dhaka's high-security Gulshan diplomatic area and efforts are on to rescue about 20 people held hostage by Islamic State terrorists, reports said Saturday morning.
CNN quoted Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin as saying that some hostages were rescued, but he did not specify how many.
Witnesses near the cafe said that they heard a fresh round of heavy gunfire coming from the area of the Holey Artisan Bakery.
Bangladesh forces storm restaurant to free hostages 
Hours earlier, two policemen were killed and 40 injured in a midnight gunbattle with the terrorists.
A teenage Indian girl is believed to be among at least 20 foreigners held hostage inside the building.
The anti-terror operations were launched after talks of negotiation between security forces and the terrorists failed.
