"अभिव्यक्ति के खतरे उठाने ही होंगें ; तोड़ने ही होंगें , मठ और गढ़ सब ." The Madras High Court on Tuesday quashed a criminal case against Tamil writer Perumal Murugan for allegedly offending religious sentiments with his writings on caste. They also dismissed a plea moved by residents of his native town, Thiruchengode, to initiate criminal proceedings against him.

The Madras High Court on Tuesday quashed a criminal case against Tamil writer Perumal Murugan for allegedly offending religious sentiments with his writings on caste. They also dismissed a plea moved by residents of his native town, Thiruchengode, to initiate criminal proceedings against him.
The author, who is known for his sharp commentary on caste, had been facing an onslaught from religious groups who claimed he had hurt their sentiments.
