An important figure in the Indian LGBTQ movement, human rights activist Akkai Padmashali has worked tirelessly for the transgender community, the oppressed and the socially excluded. In 2014, Akkai became the first transgender Indian to get a driving license, and in 2015, she was given her state's second highest civilian award, the Karnataka Rajyotsav. Today, she continues to inspire us.
