Non implementation of reservations at Jadavpur University?
On 13th June, 2016, the School of Cognitive Science at Jadavpur University, brought out this notice, calling selected candidates for interview.
This list did not indicate which candidate had been called for interview to which post, moreover, the highlighted name, was of a candidate who hadn’t even appeared for the entrance exam. Of the 07 OBC A and B students who had written the exam, none had been called for interview, even though there are 02 seats earmarked for OBC students.
When students met the Dean of the School, he said, “Well, none of you are qualified for this, so you weren’t called for the interview”.
Students took the matter up with the Vice Chancellor and a new interview list was released on the same day (left). But even in this instance, there was no indication of categories, moreover, the student whose name was included in the previous list, was replaced by the name of another student, in the exact same spot on the list. The protesting students ask, on what basis was the list prepared?
OBC students were still not called for the interview.
The students wrote letters to the VC (left) as well as to the minority commission (below), demanding that
1. the answer scripts be reevaluated
2. An enquiry committee be constituted to look into the matter, as well as the castest comments by the Dean
3. reservations be implemented &
4. the guilty be punished.
As of now, reevaluation is in progress by an outside expert, but the Dean continues to be a member of the two person enquiry committee that is investigating allegations against he, himself.
Contrary to demands, n0 member of the minority commission has been invited to oversee the enquiry. Students continue their agitation for a transparent admission process, free from caste prejudices, implementing the constitutional mandate of reservation.
