Altercation between ABVP and left groups during hunger strike at JNU
The indefinite hunger strike at JNU against punishment given to students by the university in connection with an event on Afzal Guru, witnessed an altercation between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Left-affiliated groups.
Delhi University Students Union’s ( DUSU) Satender Awana, who is affiliated with ABVP, visited the campus on Monday after which a heated argument broke out between him and protesters from the other group.
Left groups alleged Awana abused and passed indecent remarks but Awana saidthat Left groups abused him. Awana has also filed a police complaint in this regard.
Representatives of both factions are sitting on a hunger strike. Students with Leftaffiliations are on a hunger strike protesting punishment given to them by the university authorities for the February 9 event held to commemorate Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Anti-national slogans were allegedly raised at the event.
Students of the ABVP faction are on a hunger strike demanding the punishment against students be made more stringent.
Saurabh Kumar Sharma of ABVP, who was a complainant in the February 9 event, claimed that he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital after his glucose level dipped. He came back to the campus by evening and continued with his fast.
