Human Rights Defenders Alert - India has issued urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission, and its Focal point of Human Rights Defenders, Chief Minister of Odisha, Chief Secretary of Odisha, Odisha State Human Rights Commmission District Magistrate – Jagatsinghpur, Superintendent of Police – Jagatsinghpur, IGP – Central Range Odisha Police on our grave concern over the illegal arrest and detention of anti-displacement activist Mr. Abhay Sahoo, adviser of “Jamihara Chasi Sangh” (Land losers Farmers Union) along with his two other colleagues and human rights defenders by the Jagatsinghpur police in Odisha. The defenders were picked by the police in the midnight on April 27, 2016 from their houses in false and fabricated cases in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. Their arrests were made after hundreds of people staged a protest demonstration under the banner of “Jamihara Chasi Sangh” in front of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) refinery at Paradip, a seaport town in Jagagsinghpur district of Odisha.
